Lakeshore Ledger

Answers about reading the magazine, the newsletter, sponsored features and how payment and ordering work, in plain language.

Common questions

If you cannot find what you need here, write to us through the contact page. We answer questions in the order they arrive.

Are your regular articles really free to read?

Yes. Every regular article is open to all readers with no payment and no account. We keep the magazine free so that anyone curious about Canadian culture and community life can read it. The paid newsletter is an optional extra, not a gate in front of the articles.

What is the ad-free newsletter?

It is a weekly edition sent to your inbox with longer features and no advertising in it. It is meant for readers who want a slower, more complete read. It is optional, and the magazine on this site stays free whether or not you subscribe.

How do I order the newsletter or a sponsored feature?

Nothing is bought directly on this website. You send an enquiry through the contact page, we reply with a written quotation or confirmation, and then we issue an invoice. Payment is made by bank transfer once you have accepted the terms in writing.

How are sponsored features marked?

Every sponsored feature carries a clear label saying that it is sponsored, in the same place each time. Sponsors do not appear in regular editorial coverage as favours. Our editors decide what the regular stories are about, and the sponsored label keeps the two apart.

What do the prices include?

The prices page lists what each service costs in Canadian dollars, what is included and what could change the amount, such as travel or extra photography. The quotation you receive repeats this in writing for your specific request.

Can I cancel or ask for a refund?

Cancellations and refunds follow the payment and refund policy, which is published on the site so you can read it before agreeing to anything. If you have a question about your own case, contact us and we will explain how the policy applies.

Which parts of Canada do you cover?

We report from Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta, Quebec and Atlantic Canada, with stories about places, culture, entertainment and people. Our writers travel between provinces, so coverage varies from week to week depending on what we find.

Do you cover crime, politics or breaking news?

No. Our focus is local discoveries, entertainment, culture and everyday community life. We aim for warm, well-researched stories rather than conflict or sensationalism, and we do not publish unverified claims or invented quotations.

Good to Know

How we handle trust, payment and fairness

Readers and businesses both deserve clear rules. These notes explain how we separate paid work from editorial work and how money moves, so there are no surprises later.

Editorial independence

Our editors choose which stories to cover and how to tell them. A business cannot buy a regular article, and a sponsored feature never presents itself as one. If a sponsored piece mentions a venue, the label says so plainly. We aim to write fairly about everyone we feature, and we correct factual errors when readers or subjects point them out.

How payment works

Ordering begins with an enquiry through the contact page, followed by a written quotation or confirmation. After you accept it, we send an invoice that you pay by bank transfer. There is no cart, no card payment and no instant checkout on the site. This keeps every agreement written down and easy to review later.

If something changes

Plans shift, and we understand that. If you need to change or cancel a request, tell us as soon as you can and refer to the payment and refund policy for how it is handled. We would rather talk it through openly than leave you guessing about what happens next.
