  5. Photo Essays

Bright, thoughtful photo stories that show Canadian neighbourhoods and landscapes at their best.

How It Works

From first enquiry to a published piece

Whether you want a sponsored feature or a newsletter subscription, the path is plain and written down at each stage. Nothing is ordered on this site itself; everything starts with a conversation through the contact page.

  1. Send an enquiry

Use the contact form to tell us who you are and what you would like: a feature about your venue, a subscription, or a question about coverage. Include your town or region and any dates that matter to you.

What you leave withA reply from our team acknowledging your enquiry and any questions we have.

  2. Talk through the idea

We discuss what the piece or service should cover, which writer suits it and what readers would find useful. For sponsored work we explain how the label appears and what stays under editorial control.

What you leave withA shared understanding of scope, format and who writes it.

  3. Receive a written quotation

We send a quotation or confirmation in writing that describes what is included and what could change the cost. You have time to read it, ask questions and decide without any pressure.

What you leave withA written quotation or confirmation you can accept or decline.

  4. Pay by invoice

Once you accept, we issue an invoice, payable by bank transfer. Cancellations and refunds follow the payment and refund policy, which you can read before you agree to anything.

What you leave withAn invoice with payment details and a reference.

  5. Writing and publication

Our writer researches, visits where it makes sense, and Thomas or another photographer supplies images. You see the draft for factual accuracy, and the finished piece goes live clearly labelled where it is sponsored.

What you leave withA published feature, edition or photo essay on the site or in the newsletter.

Before You Begin

What is useful to have ready

A little preparation makes the first conversation shorter and the result stronger. None of this needs to be polished; rough notes are fine, and we will ask for anything that is missing.

  • Who you are and where

Tell us the name of your café, gallery, venue or organization, the town and province, and how long you have been open. This helps us decide which of our writers is the right fit for the story.

  • What makes it worth a visit

Think of the details a neighbour would mention: a family recipe, a restored room, a regular event. Specific, true details give a writer something real to work with and readers something to remember.

  • Dates that matter

If a festival, opening or season is approaching, say so early. We cannot promise a publication date in advance, but knowing the calendar helps us plan coverage sensibly.

  • Facts we can check

Opening hours, addresses and names should be accurate. We confirm details with you before publication, so a short list of correct information saves time on both sides.

  • Understanding the label

Sponsored features are marked as sponsored wherever they appear. You will not be asked to hide that, and we do not alter regular editorial coverage to suit a sponsor.

  • Photos and access

Let us know if our photographer may visit during opening hours, and whether you have images you own the rights to. Natural light and everyday scenes suit our style best.
